Welcome to Perth Midwife Unit.

Unit Philosophy:

The Unit provides family centred care with a strong emphasis on skilled, sensitive midwifery. This is provided in a relaxed, informal environment. Priority is given to the natural process of birth with freedom to move around, enabling every woman to birth in her own way.

We are committed to maintaining the highest possible standards of care, based on recommended best practice, and current research.

Having a baby is one of the most important events in your life. With appropriate support and care from highly skilled midwives, the vast majority of women can have a straight-forward natural birth.

Our unit is run by a dedicated team of midwives who will give you all the support and encouragement you need to give birth, and to feed and care for your baby afterwards.

We offer support to all women in the area whether or not you have your baby in the unit. The post-natal care is unhurried and the midwives are skilled in providing support and advice in feeding and caring for your baby.

Water Birth?

We have a ‘state of the art’ birthing pool, which is used frequently for labour and birth. We have two further birthing rooms, all of which have birthing aids such as balls and mats, dimmed lights, music and a relaxed atmosphere conducive to a positive experience during labour and birth.

First Baby?

You can give birth in the midwife unit if this is your first baby. To date, many women have had their first baby in the unit. Often this means fewer complications, which may lead to an easier birth next time.
